How to expand my tutoring services in order to generate wealth?

Growing tutoring business is hard, but it's possible. Here is few learnings from top educators.

Hi there! It’s Dima here. I’ve been tutoring math for 7 years back in the days and now most of the time I spent talking to other educators and trying to overcome they current obstacles.

If your main income is already your tutoring services, you done a great job! Most educators never come to this point! And probably at this point you already thinking about growing your business 10x times at least.

Basically, your tutoring business is looks like really simple funnel:

  1. People who found your profile

  2. People who came to you to know you better

  3. People who start working with you and generate you revenue

Idea behind this and any other funnel is really simple. To increase amount of people on stage 2 you need to: increase amount of people on stage or/and increase conversion into second stage.

Let people find you!

Obv it should be happen online.

  1. List your services on marketplaces like Wyzant. I provided a list of platforms like this previously in this post

  2. Work on your social media presence. You don’t need hollywood quality content. Simply learn how to be short, simple and rememberable. Just look at this account for inspiration Your Bummy Math Teacher with 420k+ followers

    1. Great tutors usually busy, so they have to learn how to turn content from their classes into content!

When you have your audience – interact with them. The more audience you have the less efforts you need. Most motivated will come to you without any offer provided. But before this state, don’t forget to remind weekly about services you provide.

Let people to fall in love with your lessons during the first one!

Okay, your student come to you. Engage them!

Good proportion is when 60% of all time student talking, not you! Learn from him/her: what they really want, what they need (usually, this things are different lol). Humans are smart! And every one feels when somebody just trying to put shit in your head or when somebody more supportive and trying to listen.

When you are going big, you can’t effort to host many trial lessons. You have to turn into group webinars / master classes instead. They can be free.

Retain your students

I believe you already do cool job here, but just for folks who want to double check:

  1. Do small talk

  2. Be interested in their person (do they play tournament with friends? etc)

  3. Do your tutor job

  4. Summarize every class to highlight progress

I want to grow business but don’t have enough time

Here is the approaches you can use to overcome bottleneck of your time:

  1. Increasing price

    1. Somebody will leave, yes. But another person who will pay x2 will come.

  2. Group classes

    1. It can be cheaper, first. Second, don’t say “Group of 4”. Say “Private lessons during up to 4 group calls”.

  3. Sell DIGITAL

    1. Books are great

    2. Video recordings are great

    3. Online Courses are amazing!

And probably last one: hire someone. But honestly, I spoke only to few folks who start hiring other tutors. If you started with your personal brand, it’s harder to sell somebody else. And usually running group classes and selling digital you can easily cross 6-digit income level.
